Bars, clubs and restaurants are all places that frequently encounter drug users, which can promote antisocial and illegal behaviour on their premises. That is why it is important owners and managers do what they can to reduce drug use on their site.

Anti-drug lights are very effective at doing this, as they emit either a blue or UV light, which makes it hard to see veins. As a result, those who plan on injecting intravenous drugs, such as heroin, cannot do so. 

They might not curb all drug use in public spaces, but they certainly put off those who want to shoot up and can limit the number of unsavoury characters visiting. 

Any action taken to deter drug use is not only important to the business, but also to help reduce the number of drug users in the UK. 

According to recent statistics, 290,635 adults contacted drug and alcohol services between April 2022 and March 2023. At the same time, those entering treatment for substance abuse rose to 137,749 during the year.

Of this number, nearly half (48 per cent) were in treatment for using opioids, which includes heroin, as well as codeine, Vicodin, oxycodone and morphine. This is significantly higher than those in treatment for alcohol abuse (30 per cent). 

As more people are in treatment for hardcore drugs than in previous years, it suggests that either there are a greater number of users who want to seek help for their addiction or there are simply more users. 

That is why it is important to utilise any drug deterrents available to make it harder for addicts to practise their habit. These include anti-drug sprays that capture powdered drugs and doing searches before allowing access to the premises.
